Session 3 – first powerpoint presentation

Today was the session dedicated to working with powerpoint and getting to grips with the system. following from session 1 i was working on my presentation of the verve cafe.

I used different styles of presenting my work such as text, sound bites, video clips and animation. i enjoyed working with the sound editior as i want to move onto the music tech sessions and this gave me a taste of what is coming. Before presenting my piece i went out again into town and got additional footage for my powerpoint. I feel i did my best on my powerpoint but my role as performer lack as i was nervous and started to fiddle with my pockets.

Start of the PDL course. Completed Hudds Uni membership form. The we did an ice-breaker session, to get to know each member of the group. We then moved on to completing a worksheet taking us through the different components, systems and checklist of the BSS computers.  Also in this worksheet it showed us how to create, print and save a basic word document using images and different fonts and sizes. This will help in my project as I’m doing something on the computer and there is a problem i can work out the problem myself.During this time we also saw a deconstruction of a CPU and identified all primary components for example; the mother board, the graphics card, sound card etc.  This will help my project and me personally as i now know what I’m working with.

When then went on to ID the various search engines that we as a group knowThis will help we my project as i now have a list of many search engines for general and specific information.

We then went on to list tradition and modern ways of obtaining information, ranging from the library and local records (traditional) to Internet and DVDs (modern). This will help me as if one resourse fails i have a list of other ways of obtaining info.

We were then shown how and why PowerPoint presentations work, and all different manners of making them more interesting while getting a point across.  This will help me in my course as i am beginning to learn how to incorporate different skills into my presentation such as; images, video clips, sound effects and sound clips.

We were then asked to think of a subject we could present in PowerPoint, which we will in a later class present to the others.  after discussing our various subjects we were shown how to work a digital camera so we could go into Huddersfield Town and take live images of out chosen subjects. My subject was The Verve Cafe bar on Byram Street. I thought this would be a good subject as it is a modern piece of sub-culture and i can easily access any information by talking to the owner whom I’m friends with. When we returned, we showed our pictures to the others in the group and uploaded them into a public desktop file for all to find. This will help me in my course because it has allowed me to interact with the public and members of staff of my subject.

We then did a quick search of our subjects, digging up any information we could find on it. We then created a word press account, which will enable us to post blogs so that we can be accessed. This will help me as any new more or sections i have completed can be reviewed by myself and others , blogged, marked and get feed back.
